When Sylvester Stallone announced his newest action film would be called "Bullet to the Head," snarky film fans around the world immediately launched into sarcasm mode, suggesting that the title is what people in the audience would be begging for after watching it. Because, seriously, that title on a Stallone movie? That's just asking to be mocked.
Luckily for Stallone, though, it turns out the movie isn't so bad after all, which is good news for movie buffs but bad news for headline writers everywhere. But while "Bullet to the Head" may have gotten away with an iffy title, not every film is so lucky.
'Broken City' (2013)
You know what they say — if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unfortunately, despite an all-star cast that included Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones, "Broken City" had plenty of things that needed fixing, beginning with the title.
'Disaster Movie' (2008)
Honestly, do we even need to get into why this is a terrible name for a movie? Sure, this "comedy" was attempting to spoof disaster movies, so the title kind of makes sense in a way. But considering the film was an utter stinkburger, they might have wanted to select a title a little less on the nose. With a 2% fresh rating at Rotten Tomatoes, we're guessing just about every person who saw the film conjured some variation on it while they were leaving the theater.
'One For the Money' (2012)
Katherine Heigl has been associated with more than her fair share of craptacular films over the past few years, but even her most ardent fans had to wonder why she signed up for last year's epic bomb "One For the Money," which currently has a stellar 2% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But cynics knew the answer: It was right in the title.
'Sucker Punch' (2011)
Almost everyone who saw this fantasy effort from Zack Snyder knows exactly what it feels like to be, well, sucker-punched. The trailer, after all, was very promising, what with the samurai robots and the guns and sword fights and butt-kicking ladies. But the film itself? Ugh. And the title was, of course, just asking for some counter-jabs.
'Atlas Shrugged: Part II' (2012)
There wasn't all that much the producers of "Atlas Shrugged: Part II" could do, considering the title comes right from Ayn Rand's infamous 1957 political screed. There's one thing they might have been able to do to avoid widespread mockery, though — make a movie that wasn't incredibly boring.
'The Losers' (2010)
Warner Bros. tried to turn the cult hit comic book "The Losers" into a motion picture franchise. Just one problem: it was named "The Losers." Actually, there was a second problem as well, mainly the fact that the movie was a disappointing mess. And that opened the door for a lot of folks to have fun with its really-asking-for-it title.
'Failure to Launch' (2006)
Everything about this romantic comedy was ill-advised — especially the plot, which revolved around Matthew McConaughey living with his parents and having trouble with girls. As if. Naturally, almost every single review, tweet and conversation between savvy film fans made heavy use of the word "failure."
'Are We Done Yet?' (2007)
The exasperated sigh of a bored first grader is probably not the impression you want to communicate with your movie title, but that's essentially what this Ice Cube comedy advertised to the world. And with an 8% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, we have to answer: Yes, we are very much done with this series. See how easy that was?
